Build a visual collaboration culture

What is it and why it matters

What is visual collaboration culture?

Visual collaboration was initially just about video conferencing, but now its about people and data working in harmony.  However, as technology has evolved and now our way of working has moved to hybrid form of both remote and office based, it is more than that.  It is a combination of 3 types of business collaborations when strategically integrated together, deliver visual collaboration:

  • Physical collaboration
  • Data collaboration
  • Digital collaboration

A visual collaboration culture is part of your overall business mission, supported by your leadership and an internal organisation of collaboration facilitators who help people develop a collaborative way of working; data promoters who help develop a data driven decision mindset; and digital enablers that coach people to make the most of your collaboration technology.

Why is visual collaboration culture important?

Suddenly every company, business and organisation has had to pivot to working online and connect with remote workers, suppliers and customers.  The need for digital collaboration tools grew significantly through MS Teams, Zoom,  Goto Meeting and the like.  As we know data is growing exponentially and is an intangible business asset that is not fully utilised using data collaboration tools to visualise, share and communicate insights and results.  Finally, the way people now work has physically changed and so collaborative working both online and offline is critical.  Success with any one of these independently will not deliver the value and performance you need to succeed. Success comes down to a culture – how people collaborate, how you use your data and technology to visually collaborate.

86% of business owners and staff attribute workplace problems to inadequate or poor communication tools. (Stone, 2019)

Promoting effective team building and collaboration is the highest-ranked aspect of a great workplace. It was chosen by 43% of respondents in a survey. The next ranked aspect is health and well-being support at 36%. (Gensler, 2019)

Most companies need their behaviours, attitudes, and perceptions regarding the use of company-wide collaboration tools improved. Around 75% of executives state that their business functions compete instead of collaborating on their digital projects. As a result, 64% are not seeing a boost in their revenue growth from their digital investments. (Help Net Security, 2020)

Communication tools (74%), remote work tools (74%), and collaboration tools (67%) are the most likely to be cited as important prerequisites for employees to be efficient. (Harvard Business Review, 2020)
